SaWestCoast & Beyond would like congratulate father and son team, Theuns and Jaco Kruger, on their acquisition of the famous Gaaitjie Restaurant located on the main beach in Paternoster.
Jaco Kruger will be the dynamic Head Chef qualified from Prue Leith Chef’s Academy in Pretoria. As a child Jaco obtained provincial colours in Transvaal and Free State for both cricket and rugby in primary and secondary school, proving that he is a force to be dealt with, inside and outside of the kitchen.
He completed his internship at the Cape Grace and then went on to work at the Saxon Hotel after spending a year at the prestigious Mia Resort Nha Trang in Vietnam.
Jaco will put his spin on the iconic Suzi Holtzhausen’s creations, promising to continue with the “tasty classic and local dishes” cooked from locally sourced produce.
Ask Theuns what his son’s best dishes are and he immediately mentions the Springbok Carpaccio and Confit Lamb Shoulder as his absolute signature dishes…
Gaaitjie Restaurant was established in 2009 and currently seats about 30 patrons, but exciting developments by summer are aiming to seat an additional 24 patrons on the sea-facing patio.
Gaaitjie restaurant is usually fully booked so we pleaded with Theuns to consider staying open on Tuesday and Wednesday nights (traditionally closed). He just chuckled and said that operating 6 days a week is definitely in the pipeline.
